Vigna di Valle Estate:
fencing and hedges of medicinal plants

In 2019, the estate’s fencing was set up using chestnut poles along the outer perimeter. The designed fence extends for 2,337 linear meters. The fence was woven with a hot-dip 10×10 cm galvanized steel mesh. This is a requirement for fences within the Bracciano and Martignano Regional Natural Park, as it allows small animals to freely move within the protected area while preventing access for animals harmful to agriculture, such as wild boars, goats, cattle, and horses, from entering the cultivated fields. The entire fence was accompanied by a row planting of medicinal trees and shrubs, particularly rosemary and laurel, intended for processing to meet the biomass needs obtained from trimming and pruning the hedges. The espalier planting of medicinal shrubs was carried out in 2019, shortly after the fence was installed. Regarding the chosen medicinal plant species for essential oil extraction, it was done under the scientific supervision of the Chair of Pharmaceutical Botany at the University of Salerno, led by Professor Vincenzo De Feo, to evaluate the various species and potential derivatives in order to determine over time those of higher quality linked to local characteristics.
